EMDR

Our Psychotherapists in Watford offer EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing which is a integrative information processing psychotherapeutic method which was developed in 1987 by Dr Francine Shapiro in the United States.

EMDR integrates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive therapy, interpersonal, experiential, imaginal exposure, physiological and somatic therapies. It also uses the unique element of bilateral stimulation (e.g. eye movements, tones, or tapping). EMDR uses a structured eight-phase approach and addresses the past, present, and future.

What we can treat:

EMDR is an evidenced based therapeutic method which is recommended in the National Institute of Clinical Excellence Guidelines for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. However EMDR has been increasingly used over the years to treat other conditions e.g., grief, phobias, anxiety of all kinds, panic disorders, pain, sexual dysfunction, and much more.
